What Happened Sunday? (May 30, 2010)

Stephen announced that for the World Cup Competition (Sunday School Competition), your Sunday school class can get one point for each person in your class that tells Stephen your Sunday School Leader's worst date. So, email/call/text/facebook stalk your teacher until they tell you what there worst date was. Dr. Yost's email is dryost@yostdentalgroup.com and no it is not "dry ost" it is "dr yost". I do not know Mr. Philips email, so for those of you in his class you will have to find that out.

Once you find out your Sunday School teacher's worst date either Email, Facebook, Call, Text, or tell Stephen what their worst date is and you will get a point for your Sunday School Class. Remember it is one point for each person that tells Stephen, so go discover your Sunday School teacher's worst date. And for those of you that were wondering - I will not find them out and then send an email out to everyone telling them what it is. You all have to find out on your own.

What Happened Wednesday? (May 27, 2010)

I. What Happened Wednesday?
    1. It was uber fun!
    2. Stephen interviewed Wayne. (None of it was true, but it was very funny.) Wayne talked about all his training for couples pole-vaulting. His wife gets on his shoulders and they run and pole-vault over the bar. Stephen also talked about when he first met while serving in the Vietnam war. His mom asked him if he wanted to go to war and Stephen thought she asked if he wanted to go to the store and ended up in Vietnam with Wayne. (Again none of that was true.)
    3. Stephen's message was on Shadrack, Meschach and Abindego (& Daniel). How they were the King's "inner-circle" and then didn't do what the King said and were thrown into a furnace. Then the King saw them and a "God-like being" in the fire and made a law that if you didn't worship the "God of Shadrack Meschach and Abindego you would be torn limb from limb".
    4. Then we watched a movie afterwards for our first post game! The movie was Back to the Future. It was very good.

II. What will happen Sunday?
    1. We will continue in our small groups learning of the devil and how to not be overpowered by him.

III. What will happen next Tuesday?
    1. Tuesday is our first B-Ball Tuesday! It is from 5:00-7:00. It won't be all Basketball. It will be Basketball, Volleyball, Vid(eo) Games, and (a) Devotional.

IV. What will happen next Wednesday?
    1. We will have our last message in the Summer Blockbusters series titled "Not Saul, Paul!"
    2. We will have a pool party at the Dejean's(the twin's) house.

V. What will happen in the future?
    1. Jonathan Wilson's Birthday is Saturday, June 5
    2. Brian Ericson's Birthday is Monday, June 7
    3. Centrifuge, Panama City: June 7 - 12
    4. VBS 2010 Saddle Ridge Ranch : June 14-18
    5. The Post Game: Nashville Sounds Game! is Wednesday, June 16
    6. B-Ball Tuesdays - Tuesday, June 22
    7. New Series - The Next Generation Leader
    8. The Post Game: Ultimate Frisbee Tournament is Wednesday, June 23

What Happened Wednesday? (May 19, 2010)

I. What Happened:
    1. We we came in there were several announcements scrolling like usual. They were:
        a. B-Ball Tuesdays - Sorry, I can't remember the time, so I will find out and post the time tomorrow or Friday.
        b. Happy Birthday - Dillon, Emily, and Kali Rose. Dillon is in 8th grade, Emily is in 7th, and Kali Rose is in 6th.
        c. Post-Game starts next Wednesday! We will start the Post Game with a movie night (make sure to bring your friends). Stephen isn't sure which movie yet, but I will alert you when I find out. Also the summer schedule starts next Wednesday (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM)
    2. Apparently Stephen had a change of heart or something because we were allowed in before the service started to play four-square and have sword duels (and play ninja, but most people play ninja after the service not before)
    3. One of Stephen's friends (Landon) led worship.
    4. I almost forgot - WE HAD BIRTHDAY CAKE!!!!! It was very delicious!
    5. Stephen's message was on Mary (the mother of Jesus) and how her life was incredibly changed because of an Angel that came to her. It is incredible how even though what the Angel said she would do wouldn't be accepted by society, she was very eager and said "Let everything you have said about me come true" (or something like that, I can't really remember the exact words).

II. What Will Happen Sunday:
    1. We will continue this month on studying the Devil and his wicked ways.
    2. We might learn what movie will be played on Wednesday.

III. What Will Happen in the Future:
    1. Next Wednesday is the first Post-Game. It is a movie night. Since the new summer schedule starts Wednesday, worship will be from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM then we will start the movie after that. We will do different stuff different Wednesdays and it won't always be at the church.
    2. Jonathan Wilson's Birthday is Saturday, June 5
    3. Brian Ericson's Birthday is Monday, June 7
    4. Centrifuge, Panama City: June 7 - 12
    5. VBS 2010 Saddle Ridge Ranch : June 14-18

1. Stuff the Happened Wednesday:
    a. The meal was incredible. They had those really good chocolate on top of peanut butter on top of a chocolate chip cookie things that are incredible!
    b. The high school and middle school were combined, so all the high schoolers got to meet Stephen.
    c. Stephen spoke about Joseph and his Rainbow Coat! (Joseph and the coat of many colors) and how he got sold into slavery then sent to prison and then became uber important!
    d. We learned about the post game. It isn't really a game, but rather just in the summer we will do different stuff after Wednesday night worship. It will be different places and we will do lots of different things - none of which he has told us about yet.
    e. We played the minute game and my sister (Elizabeth) won. She won a really big Shrek banner which she has no idea where to put (I recommended my room, but...).
    f. Parker showed Stephen the Carlie the Unicorn Videos which he had never seen (they are hilariously funny).
    g. It was David's Birthday, but he wasn't there.
    h. We had popcorn again! (and water!)
    i. Stephen couldn't find the video of him when he was in seventh grade, so he will look for it more and show it next Wednesday.

Happy Birthday David!

Happy Birthday David! Here are some umm...

Well, I know they say "Happy New Year!", but pretend they say "Happy Birthday David!". I know it isn't the best fireworks display and I also was a little disappointed with the be fireworks on Google's homepage on New Years Day, but it's free! Here is some more free Happy Birthday Stuff!

Since I am very un creative and can't make anything half as cool as all that above here is a really big.
Happy Birthday!

P.S. Sorry, I know it isn't really that big, but that is the biggest it would let it be, but I hope you get the message!

P.S.S. Note to Harris: Notice my coloring choices. The Red likes to be happy and the blue likes Birthdays because they get to get stuff and/or give away Happy's stuff!

P.S.S.S. If you don't get the P.S.S. it's okay just ignore it.

P.S.S.S.S. The rumor has been confirmed - we will be hearing about the post game tonight (wednesday night) at church! If we don't we can all attack and ambush Stephen's office and search for any information about the Post game!

P.S.S.S.S.S. I think I am going to stop writing now!

Launching of a New Page!

Now when you go to the Blog you will be able to go to different pages. Right now there are two pages - Home and ScoreKeeping. The first is pretty self-explanitory. You click on it to go to the Homepage of the blog which displays the recent posts. The ScoreKeeping page is where score is kept. It shows a point log of what each team did to earn points. It also has a rank area where it shows the rank and total points of each team. This is most likely subject to change and/or restart depending one how Stephen chooses to tally the score for all of the stuff over summer. To view the page go to http://fhbcstudents.blogspot.com/ and click the link on the bar under the title the says, "ScoreKeeping".

Video of Youth Buildings Construction Over Time

Here is a video of the Youth Building from a while ago to now. In order to watch the video you have to go to the blog - it doesn't load in most email accounts. Go to http://fhbcstudents.blogspot.com/
Update: I know there are a few times where it seems to repeat the same pictures. It is not repeating it is just there are some weeks where more construction work is on the inside than the outside, so it is harder to see the changes. I will try to take it the weeks where it seems that not much work is done for the next video.

What Happened Sunday? (May 9, 2010)

Today was Stephen's first Sunday as our Middle School Minister and so a lot(ish) happened today!

1. When we first entered there were several announcements scrolling on the screen. Some of them were about stuff happening at our church others were how many days until we are out of school! In case you didn't see them all they are all listed below. What was on the screen is in red, and my comments are in blue:
  a. Happy Mothers' Day!!
Well it is Mothers' Day so...
  b. Coming Wednesday - Joseph.
That is the next topic for Stephen's Summer Blockbusters Sermon/Devotion/Wednesday Night Message Series.
  c. Countdown to Summer:
        - Williamson County 10 Days
        - Davidson County 14 Days
Everyone is looking forward to summer, so it is only natural for Stephen to help us keep track of when it arrives!
  d. Coming Soon - Post Game! Details to come!
I have no idea what the post game is, but we will find out probably Wednesday.

2. Today in Sunday School we did two things that are very different. Not different than what we normally do, but the two thing were very different:
  a. We started a new book in the Known series. This month we are talking about Satan/The Devil. Stephen showed a few pictures of how people think of the devil. He had the classic arrowtail, red, evileyed, horned, devil. He also had a picture of this guy dressed as I devil which I think look a whole lot like some pizza cooker guy and then he had this really weird female devil covered in tree branches from some move about the devil underwater.
  b. The other thing we did was each Sunday School class created a name, so that for all of the games we can keep track of the scores by each team. The names were:
6th Grade Boys - Green ElectricSox
6th Grade Girls - Purple Crusaders
7th Grade Guys(Philips) - Silver Spartans
7th Grade Guys(Yost) - Black Rebels
7th Grade Girls - Red Gummybears
8th Grade Guys - Brown Grandmas
8th Grade Girls - Pink Panthers

3. Coming Wednesday:
a. Next message in Summer Blockbusters Series about Joseph. Not Joseph, Jesus's dad, but Joseph as in the one with the coat of many colors.
b. A clip from the first movie Stephen ever made. In it he is a girl. He was afraid of girls and would never ask them to be in his movies, so he would always play a girl.
c. Make sure to practice the Minute Game. If you don't know about the minute game here is how you play. You close your eyes and when you think a minute has passed you raise your hand.
d. Hopefully Stephen will explain the post game whatever it is!
e. Wednesday is David's Birthday!

4. Coming in the Future
a. Sunday, May 16 is Graduate Recognition Sunday. Student Choir will be singing so make sure you be there are 8:00 AM ish.
b. Drew Turner's Birthday is Wednesday, May 19.
c. Jonathan Wilson's Birthday is Saturday, June 5
d. Brian Ericson's Birthday is Monday, June 7
e. Centrifuge, Panama City: June 7 - 12
f. VBS 2010 Saddle Ridge Ranch : June 14-18

What Happened Wednesday? (May 5, 2010)

I haven't written anything in a while, so I will fit a ton of stuff into this one message!

1. Last Wednesday, May 5 was Stephen Sargent's first day at our church! He is our new middle school minister. He is very cool and so far everyone seems to like him. He loves movies and making movies and says he will show some of his movies he made when he was in middle school where he would always play a girl. He is starting a sermon series that has something to do with movies and how we all love good stories, but what about our stories? On Wednesday he spoke about Moses and how he was this man who had killed someone and had a lisp (which is the worst name for people with lisps because they can't even say what they have) but God was able to use him to save a nation of people!

2. David's Birthday is coming up. It is May 12 (this coming Wednesday) so make sure to wish him a happy birthday!

3. The Senior Recognition/Student Choir singing is rescheduled for May 16. Make sure to be there and sing on the 16th.

4. The youth building is really coming along! They have almost finished the bricking on the outside! I can't wait til it is finished!

5. Stephen talked Wednesday night about how he had a lot of ideas he had for the summer. Many activities and stuff throughout the summer. He has not told us any ideas yet, but just that he has them.

What happened at the Easter Service?(& What is Happening in the Future)

Easter Service 2010
The Easter service was like every other Easter service at our church except we had it simulcast in the Chapel. There were about 150 people in the Chapel watching the service on the screen in there. I stopped by there after Sunday School just to see what is was like in there. Firstly it is kind of odd to be walking down towards the Chapel and here Wayne's booming voice when you know he is in the Sanctuary. The camera view was okay, but not the best. They only had one camera and they had put it in the tech box way in the back, so you saw more of people's heads than the actually people. Next year if they are going to do the service simulcast again I would recommend having at least two cameras and having them higher up so that you see more than just people's heads. Now about the actual service, the Easter service was incredible. There were lots of people there and we sang lots of good songs. One thing that surprises me was they never said,"He has Risen!" and then everyone responds,"He has Risen, indeed!". That is like a trademark Easter saying, but they never said it.

Discerning the Times
Since Sunday was Easter, his message was the final one in his Easter sermon series. That means that he will be starting a new sermon series next Sunday! It is called Discerning the truth. Below is the title of each message for each week:
4/11 Divine Nature
4/18 Absolute Truth
4/25 Destructive Beliefs
5/2 Everywhere Enemies
5/16 Always Remember
5/23 Day of the Lord
5/30 Be Prepared

Kans for Kids 2010 Food Drive

To benefit the children and adults on the Brentwood Campus of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home, FHBC is collecting food and non food items for the annual Kans for Kids. Canned and boxed food items are needed as well as paper goods, trash bags, and hygiene items for the boys and girls.

One Voice of Praise
Join us on Sunday Night, May 2, 2010 in the sanctuary for a night of singing favorite hymns of our church congregation. A few months ago church members submitted their favorite hymns. The most popular hymns were chosen for this event. One Voice of Praise will start at 5:30 and go to about 7:30.

What Happened Wednesday? (Mar. 17, 2010)

On Wednesday we were combined in the Chapel since Scott was sick. Stephen was also kind of sick, but not contagious. He couldn't really talk well so instead of him teaching he showed a Rob Bell video. It was quite fun and before it started Rebecca was talking with Ross, Deaton and I and she was talking about how she wanted one of her friends to run for President in a few years and I said he could just run for mayor now and assume that means the whole U.S. wants him to be president, kind of like what the Democrats are doing on Congress on the health care bill. Bye!

What Happened @ DNow '10?

I will tell you. If you weren't there you missed a lot you missed the friend of horses(our leaders name in greek), hearing the only verse in the bible where it mentions bear, taking pictures of random strangers(the scavenger hunt) and getting almost run over by cars(*cough* Harris *cough*), seeing a couple make-out at a red light(when we passed them we made kissy faces!), a glee-off(of which the tenth graders should have won), and to conclude the wonderful weekend the whole six grade class got stuck in an elevator(they said,"one, two, three, jump" and the elevator stopped.)

The friend of horses was the name of our leader. That is all he told us, so we using our 21-century technology Cha-Cha-ed it and found out his name is Philip!

The verse in the bible where it mentions bears is 2 Kings 2: 23-25: "23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths. 25 And he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria." That has nothing to do with our theme, but it is the only verse in the bible that has bears in it!

During the scavenger hunt which included going to a bunch of random restaurants and stores and taking pictures of people playing Bears, Beats, BSG (a game like rock, paper, scisors)Harris ran out in front of a Ford F-150 and almost got run over. Fortunately he didn't die.

Then on the way back to the church after the scavenger hunt, we were at a red light when this couple in front of us started making-out. We went full speed(in the church van is 50 mph) and were able to catch up with them and made kissy faces at them, the girl cracked up and the guy got quite mad.

On Saturday night we had the glee-off. We did a version of "Threw it on the Ground" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEDauams7Es) It was kind of funny, but the tenth graders skit was much more funny.

Sunday we are at church and we are going to the chapel for the closing of DNow when the whole sixth grade class gets in the elevator and never get out - until about thirty minutes later. They really should have listened to the lesson in the chapel DNow closing. It was about how the titanic wasn't supposed to be able to sink yet it did. They had many warnings about icebergs, but ignored them. If the sixth-graders had heard that they may not have gotten all of them on the elevator.

That was just a little glance at what happened on DNow! If you didn't come, come next year!

What Happened Wednesday? (Mar. 3, 2010)

Last night we were in the youth suite and not combined. Apparently a bunch of High Schoolers complained about how Wednesday nights now are boring because there are stupid videos and the middle schoolers are so annoying. Because of that we have switched back to our old style of Wednesday nights. There was no videos or any of the new stuff Stephen started doing since his first Wednesday night. Personally I prefered Stephen's style of Wednesday Nights and wish they would continue the videos, but I am sad to say they will not be continueing the video series. So long. See you all at D'now!

As of Friday, you can now register to work up to 4 shifts per person. Please visit www.fhbc.org/students/, click on the Mission Trip 2010 flash picture and sign up for more shifts! With the construction going on this year, we have more needs for people during the sale. The consignors and shoppers will be coming in the back of the building and it will create some jobs that we haven't needed before.

The following shifts are the ones where we have the fewest workers registered. So, if you can help at one of these times, please do! :)

Tuesday, 3/23 8:44am until 12:30pm
Wednesday, 3/24 8:44am until 12pm or 9:59am until 2pm

Wednesday Night Games (February 17)

I have uploaded three videos of the different games we played last Wednesday. I know it is a little bit late since it has been over a week since we played these games, but enjoy!

Here is the first game called Fingerstrong. The point of the game is to see who can do a push-up on the least number of fingers. You start out with all ten fingers and each time you do a push-up you take away one finger.
Here is the second video. It is called Long Jump. Similar to the sport event, the point of this game is to jump farther than everyone else. You mark the start with a piece of candy and mark where the person lands with another piece of candy whover gets the farthest gets both pieces of candy!

Here is the third video. It is called Sit-ups. The point of the games is to see who can do the most sit-ups in one minute. Whoever does the most wins.

What Happened Wednesday? (Feb. 24, 2010)

On Wednesday a whole lot of stuff happened.
  1. We got really cool signs and banners with our new Student Ministry names Chi Alpha(high school) and Mu Omega(middle school)
  2. The projector was broken so we had no new Pulaski High, Edwin's Corner, Blob, Imposible Shot, Chi Alpha challenge, Low Budget Student Ministry game, or clip of the week. Wow that is a lot we didn't have.
  3. Lucas's band was there and led worship. Lucas even played an electric guitar!!
  4. I have finally uploaded the videos I took from last wednesday nights games Lucas led. I will make sure to post those videos tomorrow.
  5. I have a few videos from the HopeHouse Benefit (http://hopehouseinternational.org/). At the Benefit the Metro Big Band played and I have one video of their music. Also Christian Comedian Jeff Allen spoke and I have two videos of him. I will post all of these videos Sunday or Monday
  6. I have a video of Stephen's devotion from Wednesday night. I will post that once I have finished editing it. I will most likely post it either Monday or Tuesday.
  7. If you have not yet signed up for D'Now, I am sorry to say you are out of luck. We have about thirteen or fourteen boys signed up to go and we will all be in one house this year rather than split up like last year!
  8. Make sure to sign-up for the 2010 Spring Kidbargains Consignment Sale. You can still sign up for shifts by going to http://fhbc.org/students then clicking on the link at the bottom of the page then sign in or sign up and choose a shift(s) to work! Some shifts are all ready full so you may not be able to work your favorite shift, but you will still be able to work.
That is all for today!

As of Today we have 257 worker slots filled. Still only 5 shifts are completely filled, so if you haven't signed-up to work yet make sure to do so! Also pretty soon you will receive an email telling you that you can now sign-up for more than just two shifts.

Stephen is Sick/ CS Update

Firstly CS stands for Consignment Sale. Yesterday Stephen was not there, so Scott filled in. First we played some games that Lucas made up - suprisingly he has more games than just buck-buck. I will post a video of the games we played in a few days. Since Stephen wasn't there there was no impossible shot, clip of the week, Edwin's Corner, Pulaski High, or Blob video.
Now a quick consignment sale update. If you haven't heard yet consignor registration is full. So far we have 253 work shifts filled! As well, 5 different shift times are already full! Now we just need to fill all the daytime shifts.

Kidbargains Update - Feb. 16, 2010

Yesterday about noon, we reached the consignor limit of 450! The waiting list was put up and people started ordering barcodes. There was one problem with the system that made the barcodes start printing consignor #1043 then it would randomly switch to #1943 and they had not even ordered barcodes. We solved the problem and barcodes are now printing wonderfully!! The worker number is now at 233! We are filling up shifts - we now have four shifts filled! Right now you can only sign up for two shifts a person, but soon you will be able to sign up for a lot more! If you haven't signed up, please do before more spots are taken.

Last Night at Church

We didn't have another Edwin's Corner or Blob video, but we did have an impossible shot and a Pulaski High. The Pulaski High video is posted on the pulaski high page (http://fhbcstudents.blogspot.com/p/pulaski-high.html). One of the girls who tried the impossible shot actually made it and got 50 dollars! This week's impossible shot was the nerf basket taped to a broom and held up really high. It was incredible seeing her shoot and score the impossible shot. Also XA Challenge 1 was completed so next week we will learn what XA Challenge 2 is! It was lots of fun. If you missed it... you shouldn't have.
